| Just received my contract from Honda (CA) for my 00 EX. Price paid $755, when two contracts were purchased at the same time. Would have been $805 if bought alone. My dealer is Bob Lindsay Honda of Peoria. | |
| I also bought from Jay Honda. It literally took 20 minutes to register at my local dmv office. Only glitch, I didn't have a california smog test certification when I went in, so I had to get the van smogged, and then took the paperwork back to the dmv. I think you must have run into a confused dmv employee. Try a different office. | |

I was considering buying from an Autobytel dealer in Henderson, NV., but ended up going with Jesse Gamez at Unicars Honda in Palm Desert because Jesse beat the Autobytel dealers price. Any way, when I was thinking I might be buying out of state, I called the local CA. DMV office in advance to see if any hassles involved. I remembered the law that you were quoted being passed in the late '80s I believe. I think that was done primarily for Motorhomes because so many were buying here and taking delivery in Yuma and places just across the border to beat sales tax. When I called the DMV, I told them what I was considering and why. I was told no problem, all you have to do is get it "smog tested" ($55). I also asked about the tax and was told you pay the tax where you buy it and then make up the difference if any when you register it here. I don't know what Ohio is, but say it's 5% that you paid there... then you'd pay 2 and a half % here (total of 7.5%)...or prior to Jan., a total of 7 and 3/4%. You just need to get your smog certificate and try another office. You know what they say about government employees, talk to two & get two different stories! You might not be aware of this, but you can't even call your local CA. DMV of late! If you try, you'll get a disconnected recording. They now have a central phone center in Sacramento with only 250 operators for the entire state, the local numbers don't work anymore. The new number for the entire state is 1-800-777-0133 ...prepare for some "hold" time. I'd give them a call and get the process from the horse's mouth... and be sure to ask the operator's number. Then call again, get a slightly different story and that operator's number. Pick the story ya' like best, and go down to a new office armed with your information from the central DMV information office in Sacto and quote the specific operator if ya' run into another story in person that ya' don't like. I remember last Nov. I was in the DMV for another matter, and the guy in front of me was trying to register a new truck he had just bought in Arizona. They told him he had to get it smogged first (which I already knew), he said the dealer never told him... they never do. Any time you bring in a vehicle from out-of-state, it has to be smogged... even if it's brand new (stupid, huh?) and even if you live in an area of CA. that doesn't even require smog tests normally. Best Regards, Skybolt |

To all, If you are willing to wait, and I mean un to a year, the BUS deal is the best deal going on the Odyssey. The BUS price on an EX is $24351 and the MSRP is $26800. I would say that more than $2K under sticker is not bad. I got on the list in April of 2000, and I should have my AS Odyssey in the next few month. Yea a year is a long time to wait, but I was certainly in no rush, and I can't stand the thought of paying sticker for the EX. Hope this helps. |

you can buy the extended warr after delivery. The cost goes up slightly as you approach 36,000 miles, and at 36,000, you're dead in the water. I suggest you contact dealers mentioned on this thread, etc. I purchased the 7/100/0 for $925 from Janis Pohanka of Pohanka H. of Fredericksburg, VA. She wanted $1250 (in January 2001) but when I showed her the list of dealers who will sell by phone/mail, she took the list to her manager. I made it clear that I WILL BUY the warranty from her if the price is right. Otherwilse I WILL BUY the warranty elsewhere. She came back with $925, and I said "sold" in one second flat. One disadvantage of by phone/mail purchases is that the selling dealer needs to verify the mileage. If you buy within a few days of delivery, when you can fax the papers to the warranty seller, it's no problem. After all, you can't put 30,000 miles on a 4 day old van! But as time and mileage goes buy, the selling dealer will make is harder for you to prove the mileage. I suggest that you solve all and buy it asap. |

I've read a few posts lately regarding UBS or BUS deals on the Odyssey and getting it for about 2k less than sticker price. However, a long wait would be required. Could someone explain to me the details of this, because I can wait this amount of time for a good deal. Thanks. |

Opiesan, We recently bought an EX and after reading the earlier messages, located Alton Blakley HOnda in Kentucky to purchase the 7/100//0 warranty. Their price is $875 with no sales tax ( they don't charge it in KY and we don't pay it since we are out of state). The business manager's name is Tracy Dalton at (800) 264-3275 or (606)678-0160. She sent me a complete packet for the warranty, which I just need to send back to her. I remember something that the timeframe to get the warranty is when the car is less than one year old or has less than 12,000 miles, but don't hold me to it. Hope this helps. |

Reply to Steven and Humphreydog Maybe we were lucky, but our experience is worth telling. We wanted to test drive an Odyssey and had trouble locating one to test drive. We found one at Babylon Honda and ended up buying it off the lot. It had 50 miles on it.After some negotiating, we paid MSRP, nothing over!!It had an inflated "protection package" on it, but we made up the cost by having our salesman throw in some extra keys ( I hear they are quite expensive). No waiting, yahoo.THe car we got had the navigation system in it, but the way we look at it, I would rather pay the extra money and get a EX-navi than have the money go into the dealer's pocket. We also LOVE the navi now that we have it. Our Salesman was Rich We heard that the original person the car was slated for couldn't get financing. It probably pays to check back every couple of days in case this happens again. |

Just purchased a 2000 LX, Canyon Stone Silver, with 5300 miles on it!! It was a trade-in for a EX the dealer had just received. Local owner had taken great care of it and rarely drove it! Paid 22,000 minus tax, title, doc fee. What do you think???? |
