DETROIT (Reuters) - Honda Motor Co. Ltd. is recalling 85,154 Odyssey minivans in the United States to fix potential problems with their frontal air bag systems, federal safety regulators said on Wednesday.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said the problem, affecting minivans from the 2005 model year, stemmed from two external impact sensors that may have been insufficiently sealed during the manufacturing process.

If water enters the sensor corrosion can occur, possibly causing a short circuit, NHTSA said.

It added that front impact sensor failure could cause a delay in or loss of frontal air bag deployment, increasing the risk of injury in a crash.

The Honda recall is expected to begin on Aug, 29, NHTSA said.

try Acurra MDX. They are overstocked now.
Last month, the top of the line was 38k.
It must be down to 36-37k this month. It is buyer's market now. You have the bargain power.
Go ahead and test drive. It has tons of gadge you won't find in Ody touring.
When you drive Ody touring, you drive a minivan.
When you drive MDX, you drive a LUXURY SUV.

The DVD and Nav are the same between Ody and MDX, but MDX has a lot more.
The bottom line, if you prefer SUV over MiniVan, MDX is your first candidate.

I once thought about MDX, but I have to admit that I am a minivan guy.
Good Luck.

Thanks buddy.
After I read your post and did a little bit more research, I found this:
http://www.autobytel.com/content/own/service/index.cfm/action/RecallsView/seriesid/38684

I have a big question. Is Ody the right minivan for me ??
The second recall is what make me to reconsider.

Sienna on the other hand has only 1 minor recall on their 2005 model.

That's a great offer. I paid $200 less in Chicago, but my next best offer was $1300 more...

We love ours so far.

I bought an EXL RES NAV a couple of weeks ago. I've gotta say that the comparably equipped Sienna was running $2k - 3k more, but I know that Honda inventories were light... The Toyota dealers were responsive, but they didn't seem too aggressive on prices.

2005 Odyssey - First recall - many more to come by vrm

I just browsed the Odyssey "Problems & Solutions" forum. The new Odyssey has all kinds of problems - quality, manufacturing and design problems.

The Toyota, Hyundai and Chrysler minivans are looking very good in terms of quality control and defects per vehicle.

Recall notices are being sent to 86,000 owners. I believe there will be a couple more recalls in the near future. NHTSA is still investigating. Buyer beware.

Well, too late now. I got the Touring. We were at True Market Value trade in for mine and $1k over invoice. They gave me 1200 more on my trade. Doesn't matter where you put the #'s, still comes out to the same amount in the difference. i think that ody drives like an Acura. Compared to my 01... oh my goodness. And the cargo room is great for the frequent beach trips and the 2 kids and 4 dogs. Buddy of mine just drove here from Kentucky. He's always been a Quest guy. just got a Grand Caravan, already put a trans in it, the a/c leaks somewhere and the driver window motor needs to be fixed again. he said to stick to my guns, that's the last Dodge he'll buy. He'd wished he'd waited and bought my 01 Ody. He'd have been better off. Well, guess I might be a minivan guy after all... well, the wife drives it mostly anyway. But I can't say I mind driving it, if I can just get that NAV person to zip it!

If you read the "problems" forums for ANY make or model you will find tales of woe. These forums attract those with real problems as well as people who simply like to complain about "problems" most people wouldn't even notice.

And, most recalls aren't as sinister as they sound. They are to prevent the possibility of somthing happening.

Why do you believe there will be "a couple more recalls" in the near future?

Just guessing or wishful thinking on your part?

Just bought a 2005 Ody RESNAV! by crystaltod

In 2001 I purchased the 2001 Toyota Sienna. Just like with this purchase, I read Edmunds daily looking for problems. And boy did I find them!! That was the height of the engine sludge prob. in the Sienna's. I purchased anyway and made sure I used Mobil 1. I also made sure I heard my gas cap click 5 times because of some other problem I read about. (I still do it but cant remember why I do it LOL)

My 2001 Sienna now has 78,000 miles on it, has been on several road trips, and the only thing I've changed is the oil and the tires. It still runs great, smooth and quiet like the day I purchased it.

Im looking to have the same positive experience with my ODY which is really great to drive and very comfortable. I appreciate everyone posting their problems, because "now we know and knowing is half the battle".

Funny you should say that - I had an 04 MDX... drove the Odyssey Touring, DH researced it online, checked listings on ebay - we both came home and said it was like a *big* MDX! The MDX is nice, but they're very plain, unless you add extras - we added a spoiler, running boards, bodyside moulding, wood steering wheel and gear shifter, some other stuff... added about $3k to the price, if I remember

We're considering the Odyssey Touring - but if I am going to have a van, it will be the *anti-minivan* - black exterior, black leather interior!
