Not Pleased with John Elway Honda Denver! by cbeck

I helped my dad who is 80 years old shop for a new car and we found the Odyssey to be a wonderful car at a reasonable price (compared to Sienna). I used Edmunds to get a bid from the chosen dealer, John Elway, and the bid was competitive; 29,010 for EX with Leather and no DVD, plus about 300 dealer handling. Everything went well and the lady I talked to seemed nice, but I am very disappointed with her for tricking my dad into buying a $700 anti theft add on. I am still in the process of investigating the item she sold and plan to talk to her and the dealer. Unfortunately, my dad was unaware of what she was selling him, and didn't even know what he was buying. Mostly, she used scare tactics to sell this very expensive add on. I would appreciate any advice folks have to give me.

Today we got a Honda Accord EX-L RES at BreakAway Honda in Greenville, SC. A month ago I sent E-mail request directly to nearby dealers via their web site and through carsdirect.com and this dealer’s internet manager responded via E-mail as well as 4 others. But his quote was the lowest and I went to the dealership (where I had purchased an accord 4 years earlier) and we agreed on the price within 5 minutes.
The cost was $29500 including destination plus TTL ($350) for a total OTD price of $29850. Since the RES model was not available in their lot at that time it was ordered on 6/27 and it arrived on 7/17. I had chosen Ocean Mist metallic and signed the papers yesterday and went to collect the van today with my check for the total amount. But in the lot we saw a Midnight Blue Pearl that my wife liked very much and wanted it. All the salespeople were wonderful and agreed to tear up the previous day’s paperwork and do another set while we waited. We walked out an hour later with a new shiny model. I cannot say enough good things about this dealership. It was a very enjoyable experience compared to the other horror stories I read on this board.

The only problems I could foresee was that only 5 vans were delivered on the 17th and while we waited, a Redrock Pearl and Desert Rock metallic van as well as a white touring model was sold and 2 owners drove the vans away. I doubt that the Ocean Mist we exchanged will stay much longer in the dealership. These minivans go like hotcakes!!!

I finally wanted to thank all the members in this forum who posted their experiences that I could use to make an informed purchase.

Hi Guys,

Just wanted to share my experience and price paid b/c this forum helped me so much. I compared the Ody to the Sienna like everyone else and really liked the Sienna just as much if not more than the Ody during the test drive/sales pitch.

THen I came home and looked at the true cost to own comparison here on Edmonds and the Ody did WAY better. That and the fact that I could get the ODY with more features for less money did it for me.

I got the 2005 Ody in Desert Rock Metallic for $28,848.84 plus sales tax, Tag, and a $299 admin fee. I am very pleased and hope that this info is helpful to someone.

Hi soz05ody,
Could you please share with the forum how much you paid - just the price of the van including destination, and if you had any dealer fee (processing, etc.) or not. Thanks.

Bought EX-Cloth in Texas by wrightboysdad

We drove from Austin up to the DFW area to purchase our new Ody EX from Huggins Honda on 7/9. Unfortunately, none of our local Austin dealers were willing to negotiate much below MSRP. By going outside of our local market, we got off the lot just under $28K ($26129 selling price + 6.25% sales tax + title and license...no processing fee). That's basically invoice (including destination) + $248.

I sent e-mails and web requests out to around 40 dealers all over Texas and Oklahoma. Out of about 22 responses, I only found 6 dealers that would go sub-$27K on the same van. It came down to three dealers: Huggins, David McDavid, and Lute Riley. David McDavid didn't have the van in stock, and Lute Riley wouldn't provide details like VIN, color, OTD price, etc. in a timely manner. Huggins also has the President's Award, so I just felt like I would get the best experience there.

It truly was fabulous. I had everything taken care of via e-mail and fax on Friday, and spent less than one hour at the dealership taking delivery on Saturday morning. Bravo to the Internet Sales team at Huggins Honda for a pleasant and smooth transaction!

Experience in buying EX-L in Western PA (Pittsburgh Area)?? by drmonky

We are looking for an EX-L in Western PA. Any experiences with certain dealers? So far Honda in Greensburg has been the easiest with which to work. We are willing to travel to get a good deal (within reason). Does emailing the dealers get you a better price?

What are some prices people are paying in the area for an EX-L?

(Please don't use a lot of acronyms - we are new to the buying and message board experience)

Thanks!
