Any experience with "preferred customer" sales? by quagman

I'm in the market for an Odyssey and received a flyer in the mail from my local Honda dealer (Honda Cars of McKinney, TX - I purchased an Accord from them several years back). They are holding what they call a "Honda Preferred Customer Sale" for two days later this week. According to the flyer, "You can purchase any vehicle in stock for only $1.00 over invoice!" I checked their website and they have 18 Odyssey's in stock, and the Odyssey's are part of this deal. Does anyone have experience with this kind of promotion? Is there a catch?

Thanks,
Dave

EX-L (no NAV, no RES)-Chicago area dealers? by zbaby

Anyone have a good recent buying experience for an EX-L, no NAV, no RES-with leather in the greater Chicago area? If it's a good deal, we'd be willing to drive an hour. And should we wait a few weeks--will they start discounting the 2005s more?

warhoover,

I am a MIlitary non-resident living in Tampa Florida and it appears that your taxes in Texas are higher than what they are here...we pay 6% plus county tax...in my case $50 bucks (Hillsbourgh County)...the tag fees are a little more expensive...but a way to get around that is claim the military non-resident portion for the tags...all you need to do is present your military orders to any DMV location and you can save big time on the cost...I just did a tag transfer on my vehicle and it costs me about $40 bucks....and for a brand new tag it was around $110 bucks...but that was 3 years ago...where this state like to get you is when you want to title your out of state vehilce here...they want to charge you some dumb fee to do that...however, you do not have to tilte your vehilce here in Florida unless you want to...you can still get FLorida plates...but because you are Military you do not have to title your car here...the reason is if you only stay here for one tour...in my case 3 years...why would I pay to title here and then move out of state...this came directly from the police officer who works security at our DMV's here in Tampa....make sense? Hope So!!

About $31.8K out the door. Paid invoice ($27,434) + dest. ($515) + $1000 markup + tax + lic, and a few hundred for accessories at dealer cost (splash guards were free). Dealers in Puget Sound and the Eastside weren't willing to budge much from MSRP, so it was a great deal. I'd recommend buying from Discovery since they are willing to negotiate entirely online, and picking the Ody up took less than 2 hours with no additional pressure to buy extended warranties or anything else.

Help in buying Ody in Honolulu/Oahu by cyninhi

Any help would be appreciated. Looking at an Ody EX-L with RES. Would like white and so far the best price is $1000 under MSRP. I will be getting the 2005 and not waiting for the 2006 as I am more interested in getting the best price and not the newest model van.

Can I do better?

Thanks so much,
Cyn in HI

DB,

I bought an EX at Dobbs Honda on Mendenhall in Memphis for $26.2K + TTL. That's about $2.2K below invoice. I have no doubt we could have done as well on an EX-L.

As for buying out of TN, you will likely be subject to state sales tax in the state in which you purchased it. TN will not charge TN sales tax if you can prove sales tax was paid at point of purchase. If it was not, TN will charge you TN sales tax of 7%, plus whatever fees Davidson Co. imposes.

   Hope this helps. MG

Did you try Indiana area? I am in Indianapolis, and was quoted around invoice last month when looking at an EX-L. I later changed my mind and now getting and EX-L RES NAVI. I think the price this month is even better. Good luck.

I live in Oregon too and don't waste your time.....or be prepared to give the dealer some xtra cash! I have been looking for 05 touring with dvd and NAV- I had to go out of state to get it- but $99 ticket to pick up and take a vacation to drive home is worth $35638 price. This is a good time to see america!

I got my EXL w/NAV & RES at Windy City Honda (very close to Midway Airport) going through their internet dealer dept. They were MUCH more aggressive than the other chicago area dealers that I contacted... They were honest and easy to work with...

Good luck. We've had ours 1 week and are loving it!
