#2229 of 8223 Finally..... by scarter7719

Hello all...well, I'm new to the board and the MPV as well. After a year and a half of looking at Ody's, I finally decided to get into an MPV. Actually, I had given up on getting any van at all and thought I would just keep my '99 Honda Accord LX forever. We also have a '00 Accord SE. I wanted to dump the '99 since I drive it for business and had almost 50K miles on it. My wife had the '00 SE (which is a much nicer car) and we really needed a van for our two kids, ages 8 and 2. I've used Edmund's and the town hall to keep up on the Ody, but I just couldn't bring myself to pay that much money. I always liked the styling of the MPV, but after reading about the under-powered engine and wierd tranny, I was turned off. The one thing I noticed, though, was the loyal following I saw on this board. Last month, I happened to notice a used 2001 MPV Teal LX in the local Mazda dealer ad for $20,990. Well, the rest is history. They took me out of my '99 Accord for the balance of my loan - $12,700 (Edmund's fair trade was $10,800) plus they came down to $18,990. The van had 12k miles and had been used by Enterprise rent-a-car (I did a Car-Fax report). The Mazda dealer certified it and raised the warranty up to 4 yr/62,000 miles, although 1 yr and 12k miles had already passed. So basically I got the standard new warranty. BTW, I also looked at the brand new '01s while at the dealer and inquired into getting an ES at invoice. They said 'no problem', so if anyone's thinking about buying now, there's some really good deals available. We decided to stick with the used one and my wife and kids absolutely LOVE their new MPV!

congrats, glad to hear your family is enjoying your new MPV. You don't see many Teal MPVs.

Many happy and safe miles.

Welcome to the fold Scott! I'm impressed, seeing a Honda owner jumping over to the Mazda, WTG! Hope you have many happy adventures!

... in two ways:

1. It's snowing here... AGAIN
2. My devilish good looks let me get away with it!

First of all, congratulations on your deal and your MPV and welcome aboard. You should tell everybody the name and location of that dealer. He sure lived up the name.
Second, don't believe Java about his bad manners. Among his other traits, he's an inveterate liar [his point #2 proves it]. He's actually a very civilized man--for an Alaskan.

Happy Miles!

#2235 of 8223 Thanks..... by scarter7719

Thanks to all for the warm welcome! I purchased my MPV from the local Mazda dealer here in Fort Myers, FL....appropriately named 'Mazda of Ft. Myers'. Good people to work with so far. As far as leaving the Honda fold goes, well, I still have the '00 Accord SE that used to be my wife's car. I really like my 'new' car as well! I would have purchased the Ody, but at just under $30K with no room for negotiation and the very long waiting list, I just got fed up. It's funny how you look back sometimes after thinking you're settling for less, and realize that you got the better deal after all. And that's just what I got...a good value. I mean, the Ody was going to raise my total monthly car payments by $175/mth...the MPV, just $5! No Honda is worth that in my book. Granted, I know I'm still in the honeymoon period and I already seem to notice some sort of mild vibration at 35-55mph (?) but the rest of the van is solid. Java, sorry to hear about the snow. I suppose you probably don't want hear about how I haven't seen snow now for almost 20 years (a former Hoosier) or how it's going to be 82 degrees today here in sunny SWFLA !!!

#2236 of 8223 Can't turn on passenger area lights! by sbnng

Have any other MPV owners found it annoying that Mazda didn't design a way to turn on all interior lights from drivers seat? Kids are asleep and you need to see something back there and there's no way, short of opening door, to turn on those lights.

Fellow MPV owners check out the new Mazda 6 sedan, 626 replacement, it's located under the Sedans board ,in the Town Hall. Will be new to North America in 2002. IMO, what a BEAUTIFUL car. Will give the Camry and Altima some stiff competition.

The Tribute, Protege 5, MP3, 200hp MPV and the 01 Protege fresher look.....Way to go Mazda.

I like that car! I was just reading a review about it in a Canadian auto mag, and that is a nice improvement on, imho, an already nice sedan! If I didn't have my heart set so firmly on an A6 Quattro as my next sedan (Hmmm, S6?), you could sign me up for a school bus yellow model today.
