Well, you bought a new 2008, which is now a used car, and worth substantially less then what you paid.

Now you want another new one, this time a 2009.

There are 2 transactions.

You're surely upside down on the loan for the 2008. So you will have to come to the table with money just to get out of that deal.

Why? Because depreciation is not linear. Your van loses the most value at first, just when you drive it off the lot. Especially since a dealer will only give you wholesale value for that trade-in. They may only offer you $22-24k on a van that you paid $30 grand for a month ago.

But...that's fair - they now have to sell it as a used van, and will expect to make a profit for it. Noone will pay $30k for it now that it's used. They might be able to get $26k for the same van, and since they get a margin on the deal they may offer you only $24k or so (that's my guess).

Now, the dealer is interested in selling you another new van, the 2009 you mention, so they may try to sweeten the deal, but they're still not going to offer you more than they could sell it for, else they would lose money.

It won't hurt to sit down and ask for real numbers, but my guess is this is going to be a very costly transaction, and you're better off keeping the 2008.

Good luck.

I'd just wait for the '10 model before trading in your '08 - it will have features that even '09 can't touch (and the ones you REALLY want) and it will surely come with the 0% financing on non-hybrid models

rbd,
I think that if you feel like you got a good deal, and if they are going to take care of the CD problem, than you did pretty well. Was your price the OTD price after the trade-ins, or did the trade-ins knock down your price some?

I think so. That's probably a $38,000 van new.

09 XLE EVP # 4 for $33200 OTD by hellosiva

I just came back from the dealer and I got a offer of $33200 OTD (with financing) on a Sienna 09 XLE FWD EVP #4 package (Navigation, DVD Rear Entertainment...) . Is this a good deal?

I went to Honda thursday and got the same price for a Odyssey 08 EX-L (DVD Rear Entertainment & Navigation). The Odyssey doesn't have power rear trunk door, parking sensors, bluetooth and wood finish. So I am inclining towards Sienna.

I think this is a good deal, I am buying the same car - 33,200 is about invoice, tell them 32,900 and it will be yours!

I am in the Raleigh, NC area. The 0% financing was not out at the time, but given the incentives I've been seeing on CX-9's and Enclaves in this area ($8K off MSRP) I think they will have somehow to match it on the minivans.

A Sunday drive-by through the Toyota dealer lot showed in-stock units sitting there for over 3 months (using the state inspection sticker as reference.) Some of the XLE-Limited models have been gathering dust for 6 months. The LEs and CEs seemed to be moving faster.
