#8516 of 12254 08 XLE AWD, EVP 3 in NJ
Aug 17, 2008 (4:05 am)
A few days ago, I bought an 08 Artic Frost Sienna XLE AWD with EVP 3, JBL, rear sonar, and the usual misc. options for $34,2XX, plus tax and 331.50 DMV. No doc fee. I just paid the 331.50 upfront and financed the rest at 0% for 5 years. The monthly payment came out to 611.38. The MSRP is just a shade under $38,000 (maybe 37,980, I don't have the sticker in front of me).
I could have saved close to $2000 by going down to Fitzmall for a different color but the Mrs. insisted on the pearl white and I didn't really have the time to take an entire day to take the train down there and drive back up. It probably takes a good 3-4 hours each way. Ftizmall does offer to pick you up at Union Station though. I don't know how those guys make money. Or maybe the economics are the same for most big dealers and the ones around here are making a killing. Not sure ...
Over $1000 of that $2000 difference is due to cars down in Maryland not having JBL and some of the other misc stuff that NY/NJ cars tend to have (and the extra charge for the color). You guys that live near MD are really lucky.
The real price difference is about $700. Fitzmall is selling their 08 cars for $700 under invoice plus $100 doc fee. I got my car from a broker who charged $100 over invoice with no doc fee. I had the car delivered to my apt and the papers were signed in 10 mins. No waiting around at the dealer for the finance manager, being asked to buy undercoating from the girl in the tight shirt, being introduced to the service manager and all that stuff. The guy told me that I'd be getting a survey in the mail from Toyota. I was bracing myself for the usual "We need all 5s. A 4 is a failing grade for us." He just told me to toss it. He said he buys his cars from the owner of the dealer and that stuff doesn't affect him.
As for the car itself, I like it so far. The steering is definitely lighter than my Tribeca's and it doesn't tell you much but it's quiet, there is acres of room, and the ergonomics seem to be better. I'll be a happy owner as long as the tires behave. I've read all the horror stories on runflats here on Edmunds and on Tireack. I really wanted the FWD to avoid the runflats (it's not like we live in VT or CO and need the AWD) but wife happy, life happy.
Thanks and good luck to those still looking. If you can wait, the 09 model year should really offer up some good deals. It's the last year for the current generation of both the Odyssey and the Sienna. I'm sure the rebates on the 09 cars will be ridiculous soon enough.

I went to checkout sienna yesterday and I was offered 28.1K for XLE FWD EVP#2. It has tow package, wheel locks, mats, pinstripe. MSRP is $33K. The store manager says he makes $100 on the car. I am in Dallas area. Do you think it is a good deal.?
#8518 of 12254 08, LE 7 Pass w/EVP2, Audio Upgrade & Tow Prep

Looking at a 08 LE 7 Passenger with EVP #2, audio upgrade and tow prep for right around 28,000 out the door. Okay price? This is in WI, if that matters.
Also the dealer ship want to sell me Simoniz System 5, a protective film the covers areas of the car subject to chips and dings such as the front of the hood, the front of the mirrors and door edges. They claim that in 2005 the auto industry changed something in the paint and now it's very soft and chips quite easily? They want $599 for this. Also for $599 they Scothguard the interior fabric...for $998 they will do both. Are either worth it? Seems like a scam to me.

We just bought a 2008 Sienna LE, 7-passenger, EVP#2, with alloy wheels package, daytime running lights/windshield de-icer, and tow prep pkg for $25,300 OTD, after the $1800 rebate. We're in the Chicago area, and our tax rate is 7.25% (the rebate basically paid for the tax). The price of the car itself was $24,948. I don't know how much your audio upgrade is, but that price seems way too high to me...are you sure it's not an XLE?

I got almost the same van, except w/o tow pkg. I think you should try to dicker at least another $500 off that price.
Also, my advice is to never buy any of the additional packages the finance manager is trying to sell. Those are major moneymakers for the dealer and can be gotten cheaper elsewhere if you really want them.

No it's an LE. Per Edmunds TMV Pricing the audio upgrade (17" alloys, JBL 10 Speaker Stereo, DVD Wireless headphones, rear parking sensor) goes for about $3000. Total TMV price with options = 28,337 (+ tax 5.5% & fees) and (- 1800 rebate). My cash price is 28,239. By the time you add tax and fees, there is only about $200 worth of rebate left. Taking us down to 28,039 out the door. Am I missing something? Also does the Tow Prep, include a receiver and wire harness? I didn't think it did. Dealers website says it does. I can't find this info on Toyota's site. Edmunds dosen't mention these items either. To me the "receiver"is the hitch and there is most certainly not on on the van we looked at. My guess is the dealers site is wrong.

The tow conversion mainly consists of upgrades to the radiator, transmission cooling and wiring, but I do not believe it includes the actual hitch and receiver. Someone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.
Ignore Edmunds TMV for the Sienna. It underestimates the dealer's willingness to unload these vans. The price you are talking about is close to the invoice price and you can get these for below invoice if you work at it... I got mine more than $800 below invoice a month ago. Mine is the LE 8 passenger with EV2 and Audio upgrade, DRL w/ windshield de-icer and floor mats, but does not have the towing upgrades.

#8525 of 12254 Sienna XLE in Bay Area
Aug 19, 2008 (10:59 am)
I I was able to negotiate the following price at a bay area dealership this weekend. (it fell thru for some unrelated issues) but I just wanted to let you know what I negotiated to help you all.
XLE with pxg 1 (the leather package) plus day time running lights
$ 27,300 (before TTL) and I got the 0% financing.
I hope this helps.
