Question: Is the KC Summers Toyota Platinum Protection Warranty the real deal? I want to make sure that if I go with them, I'm purchasing a genuine Toyota warranty for 7 yr/100K miles. Any thoughts are welcome and appreciated. Information on our deal: I purchased a 2005 Sienna XLE Limited in Silver Shadow Pearl with DVD and Nav (package HO#2) with Carpet Floor Mats and Door Sill Protector (package CF). Price before Tax, Title and License was $250 above Toyota invoice, or $35,625 (slightly more than $4000 off the MSRP, before TTL). OTD price was $38,550. Here are details on the deal, using the numbers from the Toyota invoice as a base: Base Vehicle $30,350 HO package 2,978 CF package 119 Destination 565 Holdback 705 TDA 300 Wholesale Financial Reserve 352 Gas 6 Sub Total $35,375 Dealer add'l profit 250 Total before TTL $35,625 Tax 2,586 License, Title Fee 294 Document Prep Fee 45 Grand Total OTD $38,550 This is the best price that I've seen on this forum for this vehicle, this color, equipped with these packages. I tried to negotiate to a price below the Toyota invoice, but none of the dealers that I was working with would go for it. The dealership was Hamer Toyota in Mission Hills, CA. They were able to offer us a 4.29% financing option through Bank of America. |

I will be going with my hiusband to purchase the car but I am doing all the research myself. ANd I will probabaly be doing all the negotiating too. Any help you can give me would be appreciated. Where did you get your car??? Where do I find out about these packages? Looks like you got a good deal. Also anyother input from anyone else would be much appreciated. THANKS. I am a first time buyer and I am pretty clueless and I feel like no matter what I am going to get taken advantage of.

I know it's a little off topic but really appreciate your input to help me to make my decision. My husband and I are debating on Sienna LE or XLE. We know that we don't want leather. And we will add the traction control package on the model we decide on. I found that the difference between LE and XLE is around $2800. I figured that sun roof is one of the major difference between these two models. Others features, such as fog light etc may not be that significant. How much does the sun roof cost? $1500? We're in midwest and I know that we won't use it often, maybe rarely use it. The factor that makes me want the sun roof is safety concern. My impression is that sun roof is an additional exit when the vehicle is in danger. We heard that a family of 6 (2 adults and 4 kids) were in flood and only dad made his way out. A friend also mentioned that he was stuck in flood and he got out of the car from the sun roof. So he thinks sun roof is a safety feature. Does this make sense? I'm leaning toward the sun roof purely based on safety concern. Are there any other features that make XLE safer than LE? Thanks for your input. Wendy |

Replying to: wendys (Jan 31, 2005 9:52 pm) I read your post and fully understand your concerns. For my money, see a sunroof for what it is - i.e. a mechanism to allow additional daylight. Any benefits it may bring in terms "escape route of last resort" are far out-weighed by the fact that sunroofs are generally regarded as being detrimental to the structual stabilty in a rollover. Any engineer will tell you that taking a chunck out of a roof of a car increases the stresses in the roof - particularly on the pinch points such as the corners of the sunroof. If you are really worried about getting out of a Sienna in a flood, take a leaf out of the Dutch's book. They encourage all cars to carry a small hammer to break the window glass (similar to the type you may see in passenger trains) should the vehicle fall into a canal. I think they also include a module in their driving instruction suggesting that if the car is submerged - before you attempt to open the door - you equalise the pressure on both sides of the door by waiting for the water levels to rise partially. Last of all Wendy, drive safely, enjoy your Sienna, love your children and don't worry about the water. |

Replying to: wendys (Jan 31, 2005 9:52 pm) The XLE will give you two power sliding doors and the rear power hatch. The LE will have one power door. The XLE will have the wood trim dash. The LE has the shiny black plastic dash trim (shows fingerprints too easily IMO). The XLE has 3 zone automatic climate control (driver, passenger and rear). The LE has manual climate control (not sure about this; check brochure). The XLE has a removable console which can be placed between the seats in either the 1st or 2nd row. The LE has the folding tray table in the front row. The XLE give you retractable sun shades in the 2nd and 3rd row. Not available in LE. Personally, I wouldn't consider the sunroof to be a 'safety' feature. Your primary 'safety' feature involving a flood should be the gray matter between your ears. Don't drive into ANY flood waters when you can't actually see the pavement. If the water is either too deep, or moving too fast, to see the pavement, don't drive into it. The pavement may not still be there. |
