catsoft, could you post the name of the dealer from whom you bought your van, and also the name of the dealer offering $400 over invoice? I'm buying the same van at Toyota of Durham but they are quoting $1k over invoice on an arctic frost pearl one with OTD of $37700. Thanks!

Dealer Reserve question! by familyman

Hello All,
I was con'd by the Toyota Finance guy (... yes the guy you see after the salesman) when they said my credit rating wasn't good enough for 4.9% interest rate that was negotiated with the salesman beforehand. He said my credit rating was below 700 -> but when checking at www.myfico.com later that night, my credit rating was actually 718.

In the end I went for 6.25%, it seems he added around 2 percentage point for dealer reserve. It was just a small $12K loan after my trade-in and I wasn't too upset figuring I can easily refinance at a lower rate anyway. They had the color combo that was hard to find in our area so I bit the proverbial bullet. Besides my wife next to me was really determined to go home with the new van ...

Anyway my question is:
I know that Finance guy made a commission from Toyota Credit Corp. on the deal with the higher interest rate of 6.25% ( his Dealer Reserve). If I refinance it now and pay off the loan with Toyota Credit Corp, does he lose his commission or is he paid all up front???
Oh how I wish he loses it when I refinance

PS. They have been sucking up to me via phone messages regarding the up coming new car buyer questionnaire form I will be receiving soon. I will try to use that to get some freebies if possible by threatening to give them a bad grade (... what comes around goes around...).

How important are good ratings from that questionnaire for the dealer? Do they win a million dollars or something if they get "Excellent" in all categories???

-Thanks in Advance

That guy got you with one of oldest tricks - should have asked to see your score while at his desk. It will only cost you couple hundred dollars over life of loan if you keep it but I'd make them pay you somehow (free oil changes). With that score you most likely could get < 4% from internet bank. Those internet banks will send you a check that works like cash when you buy and you can still use dealer financing and have them beat the rate you already got - did that last time I bought. Good luck.

I am about to buy and have quote from dealer and trying to get to real dealer invoice. Getting XLE w/ pkg 16, pref. accessory package, VIP Glass breakage sensor and extra headphones - $33,958. MSRP is $36,367. Does anyone know what the TDA is for Mid-Atlantic region? Also, does anyone know the dealer cost is for the VIP Glass Breakage Sensor (GBS)? None of the sites I looked up had that option listed. I was quoted $1800 over invoice (per him) but he is offering about $1000 higher for my trade then NADA/KBB/Edmunds say its worth so $800 in his pocket. What do you think?

Carsdirect shows the invoice price at $109 for the VIP GBS. I know they were correct (or matched the dealer invoice) with other options that I had selected so I would assume that this one is correct also.

Hello Virgochamp, I ordered my Sienna two weeks back, expecting it in second week of May. I will be paying $32,399 ( excluding tax, title, registration ) for a GJ package, CF and Phantom Gray color. I was not told about that 5346A and 5346C difference by my dealer in New Haven, CT.

Don't get fooled by the VTR scam by jmess

Don't get fooled by the vehicle theft registration (VTR) scam that is being ran by more and more dealers. It is just window etching. You can purchase a kit online for $25-$35. You can have it done at a glass shop for $50-$75.

While shopping for a Sienna, I recently heard some dude getting a snow job on window etching at a local Toyota dealer. The rep was telling him that all their vehicles are registered before they are delivered to the lot, you can't get them any other way. The rep told this poor guy "we have to do it for insurance purposes and it helps you with insurance in case the vehicle is stolen". The truth is the VTR insurance policy is basically worthless because the only way you could ever collect is if your car is never recovered. Your car is considered recovered if they find the frame even if all the parts are missing. So they were sticking this poor dude for $295 for VTR.

Even more shocking than the rip-off price for VTR was the high pressure sales tactics that were being used. They way some of the dealers are selling this stuff is very close to being illegal and most certainly highly unethical. In short window etching is a major rip off of the consumer.

So just say no the VTR scam. Once they figure out you aren't fooled they will quickly throw it in at no charge since it only costs them $25 to begin with.

Some cop shops do VIN etching for free. I think it's just a community PR thing for the police, since I've never heard of anyone getting their stolen car back due to having the VIN etched on the windows.

And you can buy your own kits for around $5, so $25 is still about 5 times more than it's worth.

Least expensive Sienna in California by mendota99

Hi, I wish to buy an inexpensive Sienna in the next 4 months. Will there be discounting on the 04's? Will there be 2004 rebates? When will the rebates start if any?
I live in Fresno and was thinking of driving to LA to buy a weekend "ad" Sienna (the lost leader).

I only need a basic van as I will drive it to 90,000 miles and then sell it.

Thanks for any ideas.
