XLE LTD #6 Arctic Frost in NC by ctkand

The best deal I've been able to negotiate here in the NC area for an Arctic Frost LTD with HO (#6) is $1000 over invoice - out the door price with ttl is $37727. I've tried to get other dealers to go down to $750 over invoice but no bites. Does this sound like a reasonable deal?

I started out looking at a LE7 with Option package 1, (AM) as well... They are hard to come by many dealers will assume they have to order one and will not give you a deal on it...
 
I changed to option package 5 (BJ)... I was reluctant to do so because I did not want to increase my price... However for just a few hundred dollars more I'm glad I made the switch!
 
With the higher option package you get a built-in antenna, better sound, and better wheels…

It is similar to the deal I got in December. It appears, LTDs with Package 6 are not that common, so if I were you, I would take the deal based on market conditions near the DC area.

I think I got a reasonable deal in Northern VA. Here is the dealer invoice breakdown for 04 LE with FE, CM as factory installed options and WH, DK, Z1 as PIO.
 
Vehicle Base Model:21,237.00
Total Accessories: 4,111.00
Destination Charge: 540.00
TDA: 446.00
Gasoline: 6.00
Dealer Holdback: 488.00
Whsl. Financ Reserve: 244.00
Total: 27,072.00
Paid $ 812.16 (3% over) + 27,072.00 = $27,884.16 +TTL
 
The lowest price I got quoted on a 7/100/0 platinum extended warranty was 1,295. I called Midway Toyota, and spoke to the Fin Manager, but was told very busy, just don't sell warranty, and never heard back. I called a couple of Dealers in Windy City (Chicago) and was able to get a 7/100/0 Toyota Platinum for 1,075. I think it's like $200 more than what I saw here. I bought it.

I know that Darcars in MD are selling LE's for $500 over invoice + Freight. If you take the edmunds invoce and subtract the invoice which Darcars show on their internet, one will notice a little over $1000 difference. I spoke to the internet manager, and asked him abou this difference, and I was told that the difference is dure to the TDA+Dealerholdback+financial reserve.

Looks like TDA could be a pretty good way for Toyota dealers to squeeze more profit out of the deal. When I was car shopping last year I passed on a Toyota because of all the extras like TDA, Financial Reserve, and gas fees that they were trying to add to the published invoice + destination price. When I bought my Tundra in 2000 none of these fees were an issue and I paid under the invoice+destination price.
 
We bought a new Accord in 03 for the published invoice + destination price. I find it hard to believe that Honda treats their dealers any different than Toyota. Something just doesn't seem right to me about how TDA is being worked in. I think some of this money ends up in the dealers pocket at some point some how. The car business hasn't changed that much, there isn't a scam known to man/woman that car dealers haven't tried to pull on consumers.

These fees are legit. Toyota and/or the Distributors charge ALL the above to the dealers. Honda I don't think uses distributors, the dealers buy straight from Honda. This kind of cripples the Toyota dealers b/c the dist. can charge extra fees and the dealers HAVE to pay them to get the cars. If they were not an issue when you bought the tundra it wasn't brought up. Those fees were there weather you knew it or not.

You pay ad fees whenever you buy any car, but those fees generally are buried in the invoice and aren't made line items like Toyota does with ad fees and the like. I guess they'll add a telephone and electric utility surcharge next.
 
I don't see a need for the TDA practice and can only assume it's done to confuse the consumer and try to pad profits.
 
As always, focus on the out the door price and try not to get hung up on the line items.

Toyota is trying to be open and honest in thier invoices. if we pull a factory invoice it will even disclose the total holdback included in that invoice. As a whole the Toyota system can be confusing, but if you have a dealer you can trust to give you all the information it is much more "consumer friendly"!! Look at the re-sale values and the newly raised residuals in the toyota line up. They must be doing somthing right. I don't think anyone has bought a Toyota and been ripped off, reguardless of how nuch they paid, they have gotten in most cases a GREAT vehicle....over and over and over again.
