| If you are looking in northern CA then I would call Valley Toyota in Sanger for great pricing, although you might have to wait. Ask for the fleet or general manager. | |
| the purpose of a non-refundable deposit is also to protect the dealer from having to "roll-back" a reported sale. When a vehicle is reported sold it expedites the delivery process and the dealer can get a replacement van quicker. If a person changes their mind the van will not match with the person's name it was reported in. This system prevents dealers from reporting all of their vans "sold" before they really are. | |

Thanks Scott. I'm not a believer in non-refundable deposits myself - seems like there should be a better system that doesn't take advantage of the consumer like that. Lots of unexpected things can happen in 6 weeks to cause a sale to fall through that have nothing to do with buyer's remorse or finding a better deal elsewhere. Steve, Host |

| Just a little insight on supplier/affiliate discounts. If you read the Nissan Quest board some have received discounts from the VPP program for employees of direct suppliers/affiliates to Nissan. Well I searched the web and found list of companies that can receive the discount. And my wife's company was on there. So I thought I would search and I eventually called and found out that Toyota does not do the same for their suppliers/affliates that they deal with. Also for Nissan VPP program you do not have to directly work on a Nissan property/facility you just have to be an employee of the company on the list. So someone from NJ who does not have any direct contacts with Nissan, as long as you work for the company on the list you can get the VPP discount. So Toyota is very tough in that sense. But still hoping for a 2004 Sienna just have to wait longer. I kids would scream if we couldn't open their sliding door window, that the Quest does not have. And the split fold rear bench is the other seller for me. | |

Well, according to what I read about the recall, the Toyota only had a problem in one crash test at 40MPH, one that couldn't be repeated, one that never happened in the real world, one that was generated using a much higher standard than is required by law-- at least that's my understanding. Chief321, you have a shorter memory than I, there was Audi sudden acceleration problem in the 80s, there was the Ford Explorer tires, there was the recent VW starter problems-- those automakers didn't issue a recall without kicking and screaming, they finally relented when they were assailed by the media, this recall by Toyota is so very different, and it's cost Toyota a bloody fortune to slow production for a vehicle with more demand than there is supply. |

You're correct when you say the Toyota recall is very different...it's also a very different situation that the others your cite. The 94 Sienna problem came to light roughly 6 months after introduction, with relatively few vehicles built (approx 34,000). That's important for two reasons...(1)you don't risk tarnishing the image of a brand new vehicle design and most importantly (2) it's cheap to fix compared to what it would cost to repair a vehicle line that has been in production for years with hundreds of thousands or even millions of vehicles on the road. This leak occured in an IIHS test and they are brutal when it comes to negative publicity. Considering the cicumstances, the recall was a no-brainer for Toyota. Steve - I know this conversation belongs on one of the more generic Sienna boards, but I'm not sure how to move it. |

| I received some updated news from my dealer today...they said they are receiving about 1 XLE AWD in a month and it doesn't look like Package #18 is available. I am going to try to call Toyota Customer Service tomorrow to see if I can find out anything more as to when package #18 will be available. I'm roughly 3 months out before I get mine and I would almost rather wait until the DVD player is available(if I can get a ETA). | |

Chief321, a little topic drift is normal and tolerated, but this board tries to focus more on wheeling and dealing. Try the main Toyota Sienna 2004+ discussion or the Toyota Sienna 2004+ problems one for more about the recall and general Sienna info. Thanks! Steve, Host |

Hello On July 28th I signed a buyer’s order for an LE 8 passenger with option package #7, floor mats and cargo net for 26,876 (1,283 under MSRP). This does NOT include the 389 “doc” fee, and 26 for title and New Car Warranty Act, and 7% tax. I took delivery on August 14th. After calling Toyota I learned that ours is NOT one with the problem gas tank. My impression is that this is a fair deal considering the market in our area, and the fact that we got our van in 2 weeks is outstanding. All in all, I’m very happy. Roswell Toyota, Atlanta: Pretty smooth sailing. I dealt with the leasing/inventory manager there, who seemed a straight shooter; cannot tell you what the salespeople are like because I do not know. His initial offer was pretty much straight MSRP (just like the other dealers in this area) but I shopped around and got a better price, and when I went back to them he beat the best offer I had by 200 and I stopped there. (Might have kept playing, but from what I was reading this was “ballpark reasonable” for our area and I did not think I could do significantly better within a reasonable distance from our house). Also, this person seemed more optimistic about his ability to get a van within 2 months (at that time) than the others I spoke with. Thank you to the participants on this board who encouraged me not to pay MSRP (I would have otherwise). I saved a little money and feel better about the deal because of this discussion. By the way, I was quoted 27,594 (plus tax, 21 title, and NO doc fees, etc.) from the Costco program, FYI. Took the van on 2 trips, (mostly highway) and got 25.6 mpg on one trip and 21.5 on the other. On the second, we drove 75 mph for hours on end, while we drove at lower speeds on the first trip. |

| We placed an order for XLE AWD (option #17) for 1k under MSRP (+tax) this week. Probably could have gotten a bit more under MSRP but we're satisfied with this deal. Now comes the hard part - waiting. We're told about 6-8 weeks wait. Is that normal or too optimistic? We certainly hope get it before thanksgiving. | |
