I have the same frustration as phil412 and coloj. The only thing the dealers seem to know is MSRP and the “supply and demand” catch phrase. When I ask about the wait for what I am looking for (LE 8-Pass. Pckg#11) or whether they can get it, all I get is a list of what they have coming and a bunch of non-commitments. I get the feeling they cannot get what I want or they are hiding something. This is starting to leave a sour taste for Toyota with me. I am in southeast Michigan. I was willing to buy from Western NY at good % above invoice, but I was told that the list of vehicles Western NY can order from in September (which comes out a couple of days before the month) does not include LE 8 Pckg.# 11 but can only build pckg #1 or #4. I was told that Friday 29th. On the Toyota website where you can build your own vehicle, up to yesterday; the end of the month, I could build with pckg #11 using western NY zip code. Today 1st of September, pckg #11 is not available on the Toyota site, nor is pckg # 4! Why couldn’t I order Friday, I was still in August? If every month there is a new build list by region, then why is there a wait of more than one month? Why does one dealer in Michigan tell me that I should look on the Toyota site for vehicles available for my region and another dealer tells me I can order any vehicle I want? How can one navigate this maze? Is there a basic summary about the ins and outs of ordering, availability, allocations, builds by region and this whole chaotic mess Toyota is creating? If the dealers are lazy or ignorant to navigate it, why doesn’t Toyota make it available to the public to navigate for themselves? Thanks to everybody on this site for sharing their ideas and experiences. Well done Steve! |

I made my deal and am really hoping it comes true. Placed an order on the other side of Florida because they quoted a fair price and a reasonable delivery on an XLE with package #7. Placed the order on July 28th and am told the van will be built week 38 or w/o Sept 15th with delivery at the dealership two weeks later. I'll wait and see. |

| I am doing some research for my dad who wants to buy a Sienna LE without any of the option packages. Apparently he reached an agreement with a local dealer, put down a deposit and was told that his vehicle would arrive in four to six weeks. The deal was for an LE WITHOUT any option packages. He comes to find out (six weeks later) that the vehicle won't arrive without an option package, that it will have option package #1 and it will cost him more money (roughly $1000). Doesn't sound like anyone is trying to rip him off because he will be paying for what is extra on the vehicle, but his point is that he has no use for the extras. He and my mom have no need for the rear seat speaker (they always sit in the front) and the power sliding door doesn't help them. Is it a fact that the vehicle cannot be ordered and come without any of the option packages? | |
| I made a deal (MSRP) for a XLE AWD on 7/20 and was told by the dealer in NY that it would be about 10-15 weeks for it to come in. They were supposed to find out about their upcoming allocation in August. However, when I talked to them last week, they still did not have any word on a estimated availability. I have read about the production delays due to the recall, however I am wondering anyone has heard of any other delays. Also, has anyone heard anything about the DVD package. I know they are only building them with the Leather package(#17), however I have heard mixed messages on whether you can package #18 which includes the DVD player. Any help or thoughts anyone has would be greatly appreciated. | |

| I am curious which NY dealer you are working with. WE were offered package 21 once at one dealer and lots of 17- no 18. We have been screwed by at least one dealer and are being strung along by 3- I am hoping to have a car by mid month | |

Excellent give and take on this thread today. I just wanted to add that I was informed by my salesman that they were manufacturing awd le in #4 package only and that they track allotments by region. I put down $500 and did not test drive vehicle as the dealership had none and expected very little "on the lot availability" for 6 months. My wife and I are both long term Honda owners (Accords) and love the vehicles. We rejected 2003 Odyssey as we agreed with one rating agency's report that the ride was a little firm at lower speeds and my wife felt turning was somewhat cumbersome. It also irritates me that Honda has refused to put stability control as an option in either Ody or the Pilot.(and no awd option on the Ody). I could not find out whether Honda will add awd and stability control for 2004 Ody. When Americans find out how important the stability control saftey feature is, (particularly in higher center of gravity vehicles), those vehicles without it will suffer a loss of demand. According to the Chicago Tribune, 2 out of 3 European vehicles have this feature already. Also 2nd and 3rd row side curtain head protection air bags were a great selling point for me as this vehicle's number one priority is to protect my family. I also count the run flat tires as a net positive despite increased expense. If you've ever had a flat in a gang infested neighborhood or during a blizzard or along busy I-80 (I've experienced all three) you would very much want the option of being able to drive on a flat for 100 miles. We did drive the neighbor's somewhat smaller 2002 Sienna and loved it. I drove 40 miles to deal with same salesman who sold my neighbor his Sienna, and he indicated that if I did not like the new 2004 Sienna better he would refund my down payment. Apparrently with their waiting list a vehicle from a "busted sale" only takes a matter of hours to fill. I don't mind Toyota making a handsome but honest profit on a splendid vehicle, but I am counting on them to be fair om my trade in. I ordered our vehicle on August 22nd and am looking at 6 to 8 weeks, 10 at the outside if I am remembering the conversation with salesman accurately. I hope this information helps someone as Edmund's service herein really helped us find (we think) the vehicle that was right for us. I will keep the thread informed as new information developes. |

Anyone who is feed up with the confussion of buying a Sienna should call Toyota's Customer Service number and register a complaint. I have called many times to find out what the "Truth" really is -- every dealer has a different story. I noted my dislike that package #7 (BW) was not available in my region in the beginning and is almost impossible to get now. I have found a varying degree of knowledge among the service reps too. I recently called to verify that pkg #7 was now available in my region (something a larger dealer told me but others denied). I was told by one rep that only the dealer would know that so I called back and had another rep put me on hold to check and and he verified that I could get one. There is no site where we can find out what is being built or is available in our different regions. I have found that some dealerships do know a lot more than others and have a better grasp on the allocation game. According to Toyota's customer service center, the dealership has to ask for the specific van you are ordering and most likely will get it in if you have left a deposit - they are filling deposit allocation requests first, but if they are out of a certain vehicle, they will sub. I have been told numerous times that they do not build vehicles to order -- they build vehicles and see if they match an order (which certainly does not seem to be the case when people are getting VIN numbers??) Regarding option package #1 requirement -- yes, you do have to have at least package #1 on a vehicle. Doesn't seem much like an option to me either, but that is the way it goes. | I have my order in with Toyota City in Mamaroneck NY. I bought my 4runner there a few years ago and they were great. I still have no complaints other then I can't get a approximate date. All the dealers I talked to said #18 wasn't a option(this was in July). This dealer said they may be able to pull it out when the van hits Jersey and have it installed there and priced as a factory option.. | |
| It is Toyota of Wellesley. It is not far away from your area. The MSRP for the LE, 7-seater with LE package #7 is $27800. They initial quoted $26900 (with 2 1/2 to 3 months wait) without negotiate. I have been dealing with Expressway Toyota with $1000 off MSRP but they back out the deal when the production was on halt. And most dealers insist MSRP and some offer only $500 off. | |
