Thank you for posting the details to this update deal. I lost the postcard I received in the mail.

I've been putting off buying an update for quite a while. One time I came very close; but stopped cold when I read about a bug that prevented the system from letting you listen to the male voice. The female has a grating voice to me.

I'm now glad I waited though. It looks like they've added quite a few features and locations that I care about. I still have the original 2004 disc from when I bought my 2005 Odyssey. Hopefully they've improved the POI's for where I live (Riverside, CA); because this area was all orange groves at the time my DVD data was created.

I feel bad for all of you who are having issues with the navigation system. I have tried a handful of GPS units, both built-ins and portables. None have come close to the features that are offered to me on my built-in Honda Navi. I've tried Land Rover, Toyota, BMW and Ford built-ins and they are all less intuitive and did not allow for any input while driving over 10 mph. I've tried a couple megellan and garmen units and have never been quite happy with their ability to give easy access to the options I care about and have consistently taken me off the freeway just to get back on it a couple miles down the road because it's a shorter distance.

The main trick for the Honda navi (and I saw someone else mention this) is to select the options in the right order. If you want to get all of the closest Walmart's to your current location, you push Menu, Places, Shopping, then top selection but I forget the wording (something like Search Nearest), then select By Name. If you select By Name after pushing the Shopping button, you get a pretty irrelevant listing of stores from anywhere and everywhere.

Anyway, this is turning into a long post and I really just wanted to thank ocuihs for posting a link to purchase the discounted map/poi update DVD. Thanks!

canada coverage for 2001 ody? by kfuchs

I moved to Canada, and apparently Columbus was wrong. The world must be flat and ends at the US border according to my navi. From my searching today, it would seem that Honda has not bothered to make an update for the 2001 (black disc) navi that includes Canada.
Somebody please tell me I am wrong, or that there is a hack for the white disc to make it work in my 2001, or, or... is it just a losing battle?

2001 (version 2.60 - black disc) can be upgraded to version 4.73 white dvd (USA south dvd) where it will covered about 100 miles/160 km NORTH of the USA border.

If you need additional North Canada coverage, you may purchase Canada DVD (gray disc).

Don't use 4.73 since thats not compatible with the 2001 Odyssey. It's for the newer DVD systems. Only use 2.60 for your application.

Oh Oh Oh Ody - I drove up to San Francisco with my eldest child last weekend. He was moving me there - and half way up the Coast emy GPS said "door open blah blah blah" The kid is cute and talented but no tech wizard. I've been googling, reading my "War and Peace" owners manual and basically learning new curse words for a week. Then I found you! I haven't even tried this yet but the mere fact that I learned where the darn thing is located "under the seat" has made me happier than a brand new pair of Christian Louboutin shoes -

I own a 2002 Odyssey and I am using a Garmin 250 {speaks directions but not street names}. It is handling both the USA & Canada very well. If ever I buy my next Odyssey I will not take the navigation option but just use a Garmin that speaks.street names, Garmin map updates are easy via your computer. I keep it on the tray between the seats on a 'Garmin tree'. Window and windowsill mounts are outlawed in Ontario, Canada.

Honda Navigation System by MartinWG

My 2009 Accord navigation system can't find my home. It can find the pre 911 address which was good about 15 years ago.

It CAN NOTgive directions from/to any street that is not a State of US highway. You are on your own in the middle of a city except for a dotted line that shows the straight line direction. There IS NOT audible NOR visual directions to a point that is not on a State or US highway.

I drive around with a TomTom sitting in front of the very expensive Nav system.

Where is the customer outrage??????? or any HONDA concern?????

According to the GSP reviews TomTom is not a good choice.

I believe there is a way to allow the system to route you on "unverified" routes. I had to change that setting early on as well. Yes, the POI's are lacking and the routing is questionable. My Garmin does a far better job. But the integration is top-notch and as sad as it is...the Honda system is still better than many other OEM's I've used. My wife's Lexus system is even more frustrating and lacking. I usually bring the Garmin along as back up.
