My 2001 Venture has started making a funny squealing sound when I am driving and I need to give it some gas to get up a hill or anytime it has to downshift and rev up a bit. Any suggestions on what this could be? I have just changed the belt and tensioner and still a loud squealing noise when it revs up. Any ideas? Could it be another pulley or water pump? regards, Stephen |

Replying to: jeddry (May 18, 2009 3:19 pm) Take the belt off and try to turn all of the pulleys by hand. Except for the crankshaft (obviously), they should all be pretty easy to turn by hand. You might find the problem that way. Another way to check the water pump while the belt is off is to grab the pulley and try to move it in and out or up and down. If there's any play in it, the bearing is shot and the pump is due for replacement. I don't own our Venture any more so I can't go outside and look but there's likely an idler pulley in addition to the tensioner pulley so be sure to check that too. You didn't mention having the AC or defroster on so we won't talk about the compressor for now. Good Luck - write back and let us know how you made out.... John

My suggestion to you would be to remove the belt, pull off the pullies one by one and feel with you fingers how easy/hard it is to turn. It should turn fairly easy with no (NO) bumpy feeling at all. a drastic suggestion: check your parts place for returns! you can always take the approach of changing things out till you find the problem!

Ok, I bought a 2000 Chevy Venture 2 weeks ago and it has some problems. When driving it after it warms up for a bit, it tends to stutter/stall, typically under 40 mph. We replaced the crankshaft sensor, not sure which one, A or B, but it was behind the tensioner pulley. Now it it throwing a few codes. One is P0742, Torque Converter Circuit is stuck on, and Two is, P0336, Crank Shaft position sensor A, check range and performance. I m no mechanic by any means, but I do know that if it is the Torque Converter Clutch Switch, the tranny has to be pulled, which I cannot afford to have done. Any ideas on what could be going on? Thanks in advance. Oh, and I forgot to add.... sometimes when you start the van, it immediately dies, and it takes a few times to get it started, and usually once you start it, it idles very rough for the first few minutes.
