I have a better idea - get your kids some book to read. Its much, much cheaper - especially in the long run.
I'm really not trying to be a smartass, I really mean it (I'm a middle school teacher).
If you still want to fix it, I would pull it and trace it all to its sources. It is possible to get moisture between the roof liner and the roof. It could also be as simple as a blown fuse or an overheated connection someplace. My stereo always runs hot by design, but it has never failed (the buttons are worn down to the white). It isn't hard to pull the stereo either, but make sure you disable the anti-theft first. A Haynes or Chilton's repair manual would probably be $12 well spent.

I actually pestered K&N until they made one for the vehicle. It has gotten the MAF dirty but never to failure. When I give it its annual cleaning, I also clean the platinum MAF wires. When the filter is oiled, only spay the oil on the outer side of the filter, that way any excess oil won't get globbed onto the MAF. A little won't hurt, since the MAF leads actually heat up and are designed to burn off dirt from the leads. My problems for a while was with the throttle body getting gunked up and sticking. It was resolved after putting in the K&N - go figure.
If I buy a new one, it will probably be one of the newer washable types without the oil.

Did the mobile DVD player take the place of the VCP (Video Cassette Player) and also use the overhead monitor or does it just plug in to the RCA Jacks? Also, can you tell me the make and model of the DVD player. Any help is truly appreciated.
Thanks,
Kevin

CONDENSERS ARE A BIG PROBLEM WITH THE VENTURE,TRANSPORT,MONTANA,SHILOHETTE,RENDEZVOUS.THEY ALL HAVE THE SAME INTERCHANGABLE PART FOR THE CONDENSOR. I RUN A SALVAGE YARD AND CAN TESTIFY TO IT.I OWN ONE ALSO.BUT A VERY NICE VAN .ALSO 1995 & up to 2003.5 YEAR VEHICLES FOR GM HAD BAD INTAKE GASKETS. 3.1L ENGINE,3.4L ENGINE,3.8L ENGINES ETC... THEY NOW HAVE A RECALL JUST POSTED ABOUT 2 WKS AGO. DO SOME RESEARCH.
Mar 30, 2008 (12:47 pm)
THEY ARE NOT FACTORY PER SAY.YOU BUY THE VEHICLE AT THE DEALERSHIP,BUT THEY OUTSOURCE THE ACCESSORIES LIKE THE DVD PLAYERS. COULD BE PANOSONIC,SONY,OR AFTERMARKET. THEY ALL USE DIFFERENT BRANDS.

3400 ENGINES HAVE INTAKE GASKET PROBLEMS. I RUN A SALVAGE YARD IN MICHIGAN AND THERE IS A RECALL.IF YOU ARE REPLACING ANTIFREEZE,THEN IT IS GOING SOMEWHERE IT SHOULD NOT BE GOING.IF NO VISABLE LEAKS CHECK INTAKE 1ST THEN HEAD GASKETS
Mar 30, 2008 (1:37 pm)
Can you please post specific info about the recall..is it for the intake gaskets and what does it cover? I had to replace my a/c condensor last year to the tune of about $430. I have an 01 venture lt and it's not aging well. Last week I had to have the pressure control sensor replaced in my transmission. I don't drive it hard, and at 92000 miles it's not holding up well and doesn't make me feel good about GM no matter what some experts say is good today, burn me once and I'll go elsewhere.
