about the 62 Plymouth....

I was ten years old when the 57 Plymouth was introduced with the hige tailfins, and all the billboards touted it as "The car of 1962 -- TODAY!"

Ironically, by 1962, all vestiges of tailfins were gone (may they rest in eternal torment).

If you ever wondered what Detroit cars would look like if George Barris was in charge...

...touting "Suddenly it's 1960!". I heard that when the '60 Plymouths came out, people were ragging on it saying "suddenly it's 1957!"

The sad thing about the '61 Plymouth is that just about all of it's ugliness resides up front in its "face". Otherwise, the body's actually not that bad. Just reinforces my theory though, that they started making Plymouths look ugly on purpose so that people would spend a few more bucks on a Coronet or Dart!

I agree: above views of this car are surprisingly attractive-- open, airy & uncluttered.

BTW just read about the last 100 posts here: a major breath of fresh air and humor! Keep it up!!!

Okay, I felt a small twinge of regret posting that particular car since it's probably the only '61 Plymouth that won't make you lose your lunch. The Fury's extra trim seems to help define the car's lines better so it doesn't look so melted. And the camera angles and backgrounds are more flattering than the usual amateur photos. But trust me, the one I pass about once a month in a neighboring city is much more typical, and it's ugly enough to scare small children. And I won't even mention the sedans.

...I still think the '61 is the ugliest thing that Plymouth ever made! They started losing it in '59, got pretty hideous in '60, but '61 is still the low point. I know most people consider 1958-59 Detroit's low point in general, but to me, '61 is Chrysler's low point!

I was thinking of your namesake, but EXP was definitely odd.

Has NOTHING to do with that UGLY UGLY UGLY Chevy Avalanche. It actually has to do with my mountain bike (and a BMW I once owned).
