consumer reports article: the person writing says oil supply is low. That's the opposite of what I've heard real experts in the field say. They say the reserves of fuel and oil are higher than they've been for a while because of lower demand.

Just another CR puff piece.

Relative bargain -- $2.38 for RUG at Hess. Prices overall have been stable for a week or so.

Gas Buddy shows Virginia and most of the South in the "green zone." OTOH, the Midwest is getting hammered, as is NY and CA (as usual). NJ is a safe haven, as always.

Dayton was bumped two weeks in a row to $2.69 and then $2.89. Price started easing back down from $2.89 to $2.79 and a gas war area to $2.65.

Your $2.38 is, indeed, a bargain.

U.S. Diesel Prices Surge
The national average price for regular gasoline jumped a dime to reach $2.62 a gallon. Despite a cumulative increase of 58 cents during the past six weeks, the price remained $1.42 below the average a year ago. Prices increased in all regions of the country with the East Coast gaining eight cents to reach $2.54 per gallon. The price in the Midwest shot up nearly 12 cents to settle at $2.70 per gallon. At $2.47 per gallon, the average price on the Gulf Coast remained not only the lowest of any region, but was the only region where the average price was below $2.50 per gallon. In the Rocky Mountains, the price rose nine cents to $2.52 per gallon. The price on the West Coast gained the most of any region, jumping over 12 cents to $2.80 per gallon. In California, the average price surged 14 cents to $2.89 per gallon.

The national average price of diesel fuel rose for the fifth week in a row, surging nearly 15 cents to $2.50 per gallon. That price was the largest weekly increase since May 26, 2008 but still $2.19 below last year. Prices in all regions of the country rose sharply. On the East Coast, the price jumped 15 cents to $2.52 per gallon. The average price in both the Midwest and Gulf Coast regions also shot up 15 cents to settle at $2.47 per gallon. The average price in the Rocky Mountains went up the least of any region but still jumped 10 cents. At $2.44 per gallon, the price there was the lowest of any region. The West Coast price moved up more than 14 cents to $2.60, while the price in California surged 17 cents to $2.68 per gallon

It's up a dime here.

2.69 regular
2.71 mid-grade
2.81 premium

2.55 at the grocery chain for regular

Didn't see a diesel pump; probably holding around $2.55.

Anyone buy gas in Maryland? by gagrice

LUTHERVILLE, Md. -- For a second time this month, contaminated gas bought in Baltimore County is being blamed for damaging dozens of cars.

The problems were first reported at the Exxon station in Parkton last week, and the Oceanic gas station on York Road in Lutherville is currently experiencing a similar problem.

Officials with Ocean Petroleum told 11 News the gas came from the Hess Corp. and damaged about a dozen vehicles Saturday night.

In a statement to 11 News, Ocean Petroleum said, "The gasoline was loaded at the Hess oil terminal at Curtis Bay and then resold and delivered to Ocean Petroleum."

Biglin said the gas station offered to get her car repaired and that Hess Corp. would foot the bill.

Ocean Petroleum said the problem is water in the gas and that other Hess stations might be involved.

"There are a number of other gas stations within the Baltimore area that have obtained fuel which was sourced from the Hess terminal that same day," Ocean Petroleum spokesman Ed Ellis said in a statement.

Phoenix, very difficult to find RUG for less than $2.50 a gallon.

Bring on the Volt !! Bring on the MiEV !! Bring on the Plug-Ins !!

From a story in my local paper:

NEW YORK - Retail gas prices climbed for the 50th straight day Wednesday, the longest streak in records dating to 1996, even as benchmark crude fell for the fourth day in a row.

Historically, filling station prices tend to rise during the summer as millions of vacationing Americans pour onto the highways. But a surge in crude prices during the past few months and less production from the refiners that make gasoline has added even more pressure on prices.
