I saw and read about that yesterday. Oil prices dipped into the mid-$35 range, inventories increased (though the Bloomberg article stated gasoline inventories decrease), refineries are running at 81% capacity and this is because most use this time of year for annual maintenance. That last part struck me as funny because I remember the hearing from last summer & the summer before that where everyone swore up & down there is no set maintenance schedule.

My question is, would this be a good time to start building gasoline inventories as well as filling the strategic reserve(s)? I wonder what the quarterly profits are going to be for the fat-cats?

The other day, I filled up my '79 NYer, with 93 octane, and it was around $2.19 per gallon. I wanted to whine about the price going up, but then I looked at my mileage log. The last time this car had been filled up was in October! And the cost then was $3.19 per gallon, for 89 octane! So that cut the urge to whine, real fast!

I think 87 octane is running around $1.85-1.90 around these parts.

I think I've figured out by now that oil refiners and marketers don't tell the truth; they're like Congress and bankers and tobacco executives. When the excess stock hit them last December with lower usage, they worked to reduce refining to decrease the stock to bring prices up. They succeeded. Marathon/Speedway jacks the price up for no market reason in this area whenever the street prices drop competitively. Then they lower the price down over a few days or week to a little below the jacked up price. Then a couple weeks later they do that all again. Overall they raise the price.

Stations are $1.80s to $1.90s after a price rise on Tuesday this week.

I wonder if the next issue will be shortages to go along with rising gas prices. It sounds like the refineries aren't making any money with everyone driving less.

Just drove to the mall to get my wife her yearly Sees candy fix. Passed a Chevron. RUG was $2.29 and Diesel was $2.29. Those folks that bought the new VW TDI while D2 was high are now kickin' butt.

Cheapest RUG in SD is $2.11 and cheapest diesel is $2.15.

They have virtually converged. Lucky TDI owners !!!!!

Willcox, AZ, Doc's and Mustang and the two Circle K's are all competing for our RUG business, charging us $1.99/gal.

All of this talk of manipulation has got me thinking 2010 Pininfarina-Bollore B-Zero again. The Italian-French collabaration is coming to three U.S. test markets in 2009, one of them being L.A. My next point: Will the $7,500 Barack Obama rebate apply to this all-electric car? Has anyone else besides me even heard of this car would be my next question!

Agreed. I'm actually amazed at how they can just lie with a straight face - they must be damn good at poker!! I just feel sorry for my television; I know it's getting tired of me yelling at it whenever I watch all these you-know-whats on the business channels. Between them, Asman, Cavuto and their cohorts I'm going to burst a blood-vessel!!
