We've had a similar jump here. I was out last Wednesday and was near a quarter-tank (my usual point in filling-up) so decided to fill-up, thinking the prices were going to raise a little for New Year's Eve / Day. That day regular was selling for $1.62. Prices held steady but got a surprise Monday when prices were $1.71 ~ 1.79, then jumped again by Tuesday to $1.85 ~ $1.89, with yesterday seeing another jump to $1.94 ~ $1.99. A nice 30 to 40 cent jump in a week.

Still better than the $3.00+ I was paying this time last year and the $4.00+ over the spring, summer and early fall. But it kind of burns that you know this is due to taking advantage of the strife in the Middle East, which was going on anyway, the "restoration" and dead-cat bounce oil had late last week / early this week. This despite the glut of oil and gas supplies. But with the supposed cease-fire and talks starting last night I wonder if the prices are going to move down a bit.

It's up another eight cents at the local Sunoco!

RUG = $1.71
Ultra = $2.05

Sheesh, just 'cause a couple of idiots are lobbing rockets at each other. I didn't know Israel-Palestine was a major oil exporting nation.

After hitting a low of $1.46, prices are up to $1.59 and higher for RUG. The BP I've been using of late has it at $1.60. Not too bad compared to what some of you are reporting from other areas of the country.

Do you have Speedway/Marathon/SuperAmerica stations in your area? What are the big suppliers?

I just did a chart on daytongasprices.com of Richmond VA, Buffalo, Dayon, and crude oil prices. Buffalo and Richmond are smooth graphs, but Dayton follows the crude oil price fairly closely (disregarding the tax portion of the price).

It's amazing to see the difference. Our pricing is so variable.

We don't have any of the 3 you mentioned. Speedway and Marathon are very familiar to me from when I lived in Indiana (and visit today).

We have Sheetz, a regional chain out of Altoona, PA, plus one Kangaroo outlet, which is big in the Deep South. Another regional chain is Hess, which I believe is based in New York. National brands that are big here are Exxon, Shell, Chevron, and BP. We have a few smaller brands like East Coast and Excel.

Wawa, common in NJ, is making inroads into northern VA, but hasn't reached our area yet.

Last Fill-Up... by jae5

was for $1.94 (last Friday). The price has since gone down 4 cents to $1.90 with the Mobils / Shells / BP still at $1.97 ~ $2.00.

Finally finished my yearly fuel spreadsheet and looking over the totals I spent $720 dollars more in 2008 than in 2007. Attributing this to driving 2000 more miles than last. Over the course of 2007, the truck was down for about 1.5 months overall due to numerous $$$ repairs and 2008 included three trips to Indy (1300 miles) and overall higher fuel costs. I think my mileage will be lower this year as I'm not planning any trips or car hunts and hoping the fuel costs will be lower.

Thanks for giving me the idea of posting my last two year totals:

2007 -
miles driven = 17,453
fuel costs = $1,402.60
cost per mile driven = $ 0.08037 cents
Average fillup cost = $37.90
Average gallon cost = $2.77

2008 -
miles driven = 14,507
fuel costs = $1,363.06
cost per mile driven = $ 0.09396 cents
Average fillup cost = $38.90
Average gallon cost = $3.12

So all in all, I did not so bad in 2008. Only cost me an extra $1 per fillup on average.

You averaged 34.5 mpg in 2007 and 33.2 mpg in 2008. What kind of car are you driving?
