I have seen $2.46 for 87 octane in the Redford area (which is west of Detroit). That's the lowest I have seen in a long time. Boy, I hope these prices keep coming down. Can't wait to see my heating bills this winter.

...I have electric heat (a heat pump). We keep the thermostat low enough so that only on the coldest of nights does the "emergency" mode come on -- resistance heat (like a toaster). That can run up the bill.

Some years ago, a natural gas line was put down in our subdivision. We passed on tapping into it.

...I was happy to pay only $2.729 in New Lenox, IL (Jewel with a gas station on Route 30 just off I-80) for 87 octane, about 20 cents cheaper than most of Chicago.

What I can't believe is that we find these prices cheap! I remember 99 cents a gallon not too long ago.

This was odd - in Potomac, MD, next to Montgomery Mall, there is an Exxon and a Shell station that share a plot, they are literally back to back. Usually prices are the same, but yesterday the Shell was 20 cents cheaper for all grades! I guess the Exxon had not responded yet.

Even more odd was someone getting gas at the Exxon! Hello? Drive 20 feet away and save 20 cents a gallon. Sheesh.

Dropping for sure. When we get to cheap, I'm sure we'll be making some noise.

It's still too much but not as bad as it was about a month ago. I wish the prices fell as quickly as they rose. Funny, I remember getting Amoco Ultimate and Sunoco Ultra for around $1.47 not so long ago.
