| Down to $2.69 for 87 and $2.99 for premium in State College on Saturday | |

The two Exxons near White Flint are both $3.24 for regular now. $3.09 down the street at the Chevron, but several pumps were out of order (they had not run out of any gas, so that was odd). Also $3.09 at the Getty on Montrose, so I filled up there. -juice |

I see that it's down to $2.62 at the Flying J, but as I haven't been out yet today, I can't say if we dropped again here. Once I make the after-basketball-practice run, I'll know Maybe I should bill for these parent/chauffer deals??? LOL |
|
| Down to $2.65 here in Happy Valley and the wife reports that Altoona, PA has dropped to $2.59 | |
I also live in the Chicago area (Joliet) and I don't understand why the prices in the Chicagoland area are still so high. My wife and kids live in Dayton OH and I go there every weekend. Prices there this past weekend were in the $2.60's while our's in Joliet are still in the $2.90's. Is the gouging worse in this area or what?

Replying to: bottgers (Oct 11, 2005 4:12 am) Have you considered **TAXES**? Why is gas 30 cents higher in Chicago City compared with Winnebago Co., IL. It also does not help that the refineries have to prepare SIX different gas formulations for the state of Iliinois. I have been paying $2.61 in McHenry County (Phillips 66 and Sam's Club). |

| ...on Verree and Rhawn. Regular is 5 cents less at $2.77. Ultra is now $3.05 - almost as low as the day before Katrina when it was an even $3.00. Lowest price seen is $2.76 at the no-name station. | |

Central VA Sheetz 87 $2.799, 93 $2.999. Exxon up the road is 10 cents higher. Citgo almost next door to Exxon is still $2.999 for 87 (no change). |

I can understand why Chicago is so high (taxes for state, Cook County, I'm sure multiple taxes for the city), but Joliet is in Will County, should (always had until recently) have lower/fewer taxes than Chicago, with resulting lower prices, no? Just this year, I've noticed no to very little difference in gas prices between the city and anywhere within fifty miles, save for Indiana, which is still considerably cheaper. Gas is still hovering around $3 in the city, some places even slightly higher.

Replying to: ghulet (Oct 11, 2005 9:37 am) Citgo (IL62-IL25) - $2.61 Crystal Lake $2.78-2.84 Kane Co along Randall $2.78-2.87 In the past month (when the gas approached $3), Chicago and the suburbs seriously flattened out. However, the wide differences have started to reappear with prices in Chicago and the gas stations on the freeways (like Joliet) still remain pretty high. In general, I try to buy gas at one of the following sources to get the best prices (without driving a mile out of the way): IL-251 near Rockton (ourside of Rockford) Sam's Club - usually the last to raise prices. Costco generally matches SC a few days later - their usual "me too" strategy) Randall Rd (Kane/McHenry) - Albertsons/Safeway/Citgo is a perpetual gas war. Citgo at the intersection of IL-62 and IL-25 We ALWAYS fill up before heading into Cook County where the prices tend to be the highest. Wisconsin also tends to be higher. I am not saying that 0.30 price difference justifies a 25 mile drive to get gas BUT ... I will fill up sooner on cheaper gas. |
